In fire we are born, in breath we are bound.
In the age of ash and waking flame, before the night was bound in stars, there walked a Sunblood—a child of ember and bone, whose breath echoed that of dragons.
Today’s Image of the Day, Between Breath and Ash by Varosh Santanamiguel, is a breathtaking vision of myth reborn. At its center stands a warrior who is not merely adorned, but forged—each element of his form a story told in scorched whispers and wyrm-song.
His hair, tousled and unruled, flows like wildfire—NO DRAGON by no.match, as untamed as the wyrms themselves. The tattoos that mark his skin, Ægir by Juna, are not mere paint but flame-script, etched by ancient rituals beneath solar eclipses. His gaze—Druk Eyes by YOSHI—holds the ember-soul of a creature between worlds: not man, not beast, but both. A being shaped by what Varosh calls the “breathing bond,” where flame becomes kin and flesh becomes myth.
Upon him rests the Bone Warrior set by Faunus—crown, sword, and pelt—the regalia not of kings but of flamecallers. Each talon-shaped pendant and cracked leather guard speaks of a pact made in silence with the old gods of fang and storm. His dragon-shaped earrings from NeonSheep catch the sun like charms of warding—or perhaps of summoning.
And beside him, vast and coiled like a storm on the verge of breaking, is the Valorian Dragon by Prehistorica: The Dawn Kingdoms. It is no pet, no prize, but a mirror. Its eyes hold the same fire as the warrior’s, the same breath—the living thread of kinship Varosh writes of: “A bond not owned, but shared.”
Behind them looms the Harshlands Viking Totem, carved with screaming mouths and grim visages. A reminder of what came before—the gods who roared and fell, the watchers who now remain mute as new legends rise.
With this piece, Varosh doesn’t merely illustrate a world—he evokes it. He gives us the Sunblood’s saga, somewhere between prophecy and memory, where every breath may yet stir a sleeping flame.
